The Citadel IDQ Projects
As part of an Indefinite Quantity Contract with The Citadel, the College contracted with Quackenbush Architects + Planners for The Stevens Barracks Replacement Study as well as the Krause Leadership Study. Both studies provide the The Citadel with comprehensive research that is essential for final planning and execution of the projects.
Stevens Barracks Replacement Study
The College contracted with Quackenbush to perform a feasibility study for the construction of a new Stevens Barracks and the re-purposing of the existing Stevens Barracks. The Old Stevens Barracks, originally constructed in 1942 and renovated several times in the last 78 years, had reached the end of its effective life and needed a completion renovation. It also was unable to accommodate the College’s need for an additional 460 cadets. To accommodate the College’s growing needs, a new location for the New Stevens Barracks location had been determined in the College’s 2020 Master Plan, conducted by Ayers Saint Gross and Q+. The new Stevens Barracks would house the additional cadets in four companies, would be aligned with the Old Stevens Barracks and Watts Barracks, and would provide adequate female restrooms on all floors. As part of the renovation and replacement efforts, a 6-court Tennis facility would also be constructed.
Krause Leadership Study
Originally built in 1936, the two-story building at 201–204 Richardson Ave, part of the Citadel Campus, is undergoing renovations. This project includes updating office spaces in units 201–203 and creating the Krause School of Leadership and Ethics in units 202–203. The renovation scope involves interior demolition, a new connection between units, front stairs demolition for accessibility, and the addition of a conference room and office space for leadership studies faculty on the first and second floors.
